CD audio plays - DVD audio doesn't

Hi

I have 2 CD/ DVD drives and recently replaced my sound card. The system
sounds
returned but I had problems with playing CDs and DVDs on both drives - no
sound. I followed the troubleshooter and disabled the digital CD audio for
both devices. They now play audio CDs :)

However, when I try to play DVDs I get the video but not the sound - just a
hiss. This applies to both drives :-(

There is no audio cable linking the drives and sound card - would that make
a difference? Are there any other suggestions, please?

Many thanks in anticipation

Are you using Media Player for the Video DVD's?

If so, check for any installed plugins that may need to be reinstalled/uninstalled. With a DVD in the drive go to Tools/Plugins/Options/DVD Tab/Advanced Button. If a plugin dialog box pops up, select Properties for the plugin and look for any Audio Output settings that may need to be enabled.

If this does not fix the problem, try posting you're query to the media player newsgroup.

Many thanks - I tried this but it didn't work. I'll try posting on the media
player newsgroup
