I have my system with XPPRO, while I am importing data from my DVD
(LightScribe Drive) but using the CD normally the system suddenly reports
that cannot read from the dics, Looked in the explorer and drives were gone.
I checked in the windows event I saw the follow line:

The device 'TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552L'
(IDE\CdRomTSSTcorp_CD/DVDW_TS-H552L_______________0614____\5&1c5c6e99&0&0.0.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

Looked in the go.microsoft.com/link..blablabla. and said that Microsoft does
not currently have a answer to this issue. Does anyone of you experience
something similar with the CD/DVD combinations? if I reboot the machine these
come back to normal. But is does it all the time if I use one of the devices.

Please do not said that I have to install the system from scrash, i'll die:-(

Try this;

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the
registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters
value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost
functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording
software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem
recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

7. Restart your computer.

Hi Thx for the input, didn't work anyhow. I did a backup of the value before
I made the changes you suggested, I lost the DVD funtionalities on other
device, tried to revoke changes no success. I guess need to take some other
approach to this:-((

This is a brand new out the shelve computer, so I could call the
manufacturer "HP" or wait for other suggestion, doubt the HP help-desk could
deal with this, without using sentences, upgrade bios, or reinstall windows.

Sorry it didn't work. We have seen this happen on many new PCs at
my place of work. They aren't HP machines, but are from another
big manufacturer. This procedure usually lets the CD drives
reappear on reboot.

Perhaps the IDE controller has failed or the cables on the drives
have not been connected properly at the factory.

Good luck finding a solution.
