D: disappeared CD/DVD

My CD/DVD drive no longer is listed in my system description. It also doesn't
notice when I insert a cd into it. I think it was stopped or disconnected in
the "safely remove hardware" tool. Maybe? More then myself uses computer so
I'm guessing that could be an option that they use for removeing memory
cards. Anythings posssible. Please advise.

1. Does the DVD drive appear in / Control Panel / Settings /
Device Manager? If not, it probably has an electric fault and
should be replaced.
2. Standard route to reinstallation of drivers is to remove an
item from Device Manager and reboot so that Plug & Play
will detect "new hardware" and prompt you for drivers. You
may need to review whether BIOS sets P&P on or off.
