CDROM DVD reads CD don't

My CD-ROM has stopped working. Tried different things to no avail. Noticed
that it will read a DVD, but a CD or blank CD it ask's to please insert a
disk. Any ideas. OH, thanks ahead of time!! DdY

The CD laser has expired (they have a limited life). You need a replacement
optical drive which, provided you don't have a laptop, are dirt cheap these
days.
