Yeah, so far so good. Seem to have fixed the problems I was having with my
1950 Pro 512 AGP. Actually managed to play STALKER for an hour without a
single crash or glitch. Amazing.

That took how many versions? I long ago sold my X1650 Pro AGP for lack of 3D
function in Cat 7.6's and onward.

I've been running 3 systems using ATI graphics cards including a 1650Pro,
2600XT and a 3850, one system runs XP 32bit, one runs vista 32bit and one
vista 64bit. All have run perfectly with no gaming or crashing issues. Not
a single issue as of yet. I find the ATI drivers are far superior to
anything that Nvidia have provided me when I used to use their products.
Maybe the "some" of the crashes and such are more to do with the users and
their other hardware conflicting or something like that...I dunno, but
they are great drivers IMO.

And how many of those cards you listed are AGP?

I play Crysis allot. Was hoping I could pick up AA - turn it on now and
you loose the crosshairs in the scopes. ATI's Crysis hotfix had AA and
crosshairs going and fast game play, but that was 4 versions ago. Non of
the new versions have taken care of this fix found in the hot-fix from 4
months ago. Why?

I sure am glad you gave a heads-up, I'm getting tired installing new
updates and not knowing what is going to work or stop working. It's
getting old hat to me anymore.

Hay - two weeks ago I OC'ed my cpu up 5%, what a difference in frame rate
in Crysis. I couldn't believe the difference. Crysis always slowed down
when there were falling rocks around the quarry, -- major improvement.
I'd like to bump it up to 10%, but I only have factory cooling on the cpu.
Don't want to press my luck. Core 2 dual E6600, 4 gig of ram, ATI HD
3870.

There is now a 8.4 hot fix for agp cards

I have one Vista 32 and two XP systems with X800/X850 AGP cards. My dxdiag
runs fine on all of them. No hot fix needed. I am sure this is a rare
problem but it is great that ATI will invest the man-hours necessary to
release a hotfix for those that need it.

I have never had trouble with ATI drivers since the original Radeon was
released.

It's not a rare problem. Just because your cards don't have an issue doen't
mean it doesn't exist. Any digging will show you it's a real and widespread
issue. I suggest you Google "catalyst 8.4 hotfix" (or 8.3 hotfix, or, well,
you get it) .The hotfixes have rarely worked for many of the AGP cards that
the problem occurs in. Every hotfix up to 8.3 failed to fix DX functionality
on my X1650 Pro. That's when I gave up and sold the card. And as for it
being "great" that they invest the man hours, consider that ATI/AMD and
their partners are currently making and selling AGP cards which don't work
with the last 8 or 9 driver releases. So no, it's not "great" that they are
doing it. It would be different if these drivers didn't just work in long
out of production but still serviceable legacy cards. It's inexcusable for
the ONLY current drivers to not work on currentlymade and marketed cards.

This issue only arose after the 7.5's for many of the AGP cards. Until this
time there was no issue with this problem. And until then, I and many others
didn't have an issue either.

I would say you've been extremely lucky.

The good news is that the Hotfix driver for AGP cards works very nicely,
no issues at all, but what's really annoying is the need to search out and
install the hotfix in the first place. IMO ATI should offer it as a driver
for AGP cards on their driver download page rather than have it hidden
away under the Knowledgebase.
Dunno about luck, I'm the same, not one single issue with any cat from 7.x
to the lastest. No game problems, can play stalker for example for as long
as I want. All Directx tests pass no problems. I'm running an AGP
1950pro..

Cheers Dre

Me too, but though DXDiag says everything is OK, frame rates in games like
IL2 are down significantly with every driver since 7.11
