Catfish catalog utility

Hi all,

Since the development of catfish stopped a long time ago and since I
have all my CDs/DVDs info stored with catfish, I'm in the process of
resume the development with these main goals:
- fix the main bugs
- enhance the program so that it is possible to export all the data to
external files (xml?, another catalog utility files?)
- enhancement: store an ed2k hash with each record

If anybody here that uses this program could give me some bugs she/he
found.

Thanks

I used your program, and fund it nice. few ideas :

1) enhance the righ-click menu (IIR it was lacking some features..)
2) get the possibility to sort out (show all) the items matching the
regexp,
instead of scrolling them with F3... (likewise locate32)
3) make a version for HP 200LX :) since it's 16bit.

Hi,

you're mistaken. I am not the original developer of this program.

But since the development from Equi4 has stopped, and since I continue
to use this program as an end-user, I downloaded the source code (open
source license) and I loaded it and changed it in my Visual Studio to
recompile it (not finished, lot of nasty code).

I will create a dedicated web site when the new binaries will be
generated.

Long file names for the catalog file names would be nice. The version of
Catfish that I use does the old DOS 8.3 thing.

I also thought that the interface was very clumsy and non-intuitive when
one is wanting to scan a drive. Also, it would be nice if the program
remembered the last place you wanted to scan. Every time I run it, I
have to navigate from the Catfish program folder. It would be better if
it started in the root.

By the way, thanks for doing this. I've used Catfish for years.

Wish list

1- Multiple database. I have to use different instances for different
collections (ie 1 for software, 1 for pictures, 1 for videos, etc)

2- Auto compress Database

thanks

I've stored copies of all non-system folders from every computer I've
owned on Catfish for historical purposes, dating back to Win3.11 days.
Glad to here someone still has an interest in supporting Catfish.

I'll take a closer look at its operation and let you know if I see
where there is room for improvement. I'm using Catfish16, dated Nov
1997. As I recall there was something I didn't like about Catfish18

I wish that when you start a scan it would automatically remember where
you scanned from as a starting point last time OR it would simply go to
the root instead of the program's folder (as it does now.) Also, long
filename support for naming the catalogs would be nice.

Thanks very much for doing this. I rely on the program a lot for testing
freeware.
