Categories not being assigned by rules

Hi,

I'm trying to assign a category using a rule in Outlook 2007. The rule does
everything else it is supposed to do to the message, EXCEPT apply the
category. If I try creating a rule just to apply the category, that rule
does not work at all.

I don't know if this is in anyway related to the fact that I must reset the
Quick Click for categories every time I open Outlook or not, but that's also
an issue.

Thanks!

Do you have the SP2 installed? That one comes with a new bug related to the
quick click category. A fix (or workaround) is available here:

As for the rule, if that isn't also an issue of SP2, do you still have the
default rule enabled, which removes categories from incoming messages?

Hi, Michael--

Thanks for the heads up on the Quick Click fix. I may just wait for SP3,
especially if I can get my rule working as desired.

The only rules I have in place are those that I've created--if there are any
default rules, I must have deleted them. I checked the rule in question, and
it does not have "Clear message's categories" checked in the second page of
the rules wizard. Is that the "default rule" you mean?

If you start the rules wizard, there is (or was) one called "Clear
categories on mail (recommended)".

However, this might be another oddity of the SP2.
