Capturing

I'm using an ADAPTEC, USB 2, capture device for analog. It came with Sonic MyDVD. I'm currently using ver 5.2 of MyDVD. The video I capture through MyDVD creates an MPEG2 file, but MovieMaker can't recognize it. Error message is

F:\MyDVD videos\basketball0317_4.mpeg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events fro

And, even though the Adaptec is in the list of capture devices, when I try to capture I get an "unknown error has occurred" message

Any input would be very helpful. Thank you

MPEG2 is sometimes difficult to deal with due to codec issues.
Playback/importing of MPEG2 content is completely dependent on the third
party MPEG2 decoder installed on your computer. Most do not work well. See
the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of www.papajohn.org for some
info and comments

Movie Maker 2.0 cannot playback Mpeg2 content.

I'll add that I use TMPGEnc to take MPEG2 files from MyDVD (version 4.5) and
convert them into AVI files for use in MM2, rather than using them directly.

Hey PapaJohn...you have at least given me hope that I can use the Adaptec, through MyDVD. What is TMPGEnc and, can you give me some of the process for using it - as you say, convert to AVI file for use in MM2

Thank you!

It's a utility for converting to and from MPEG files.... here's the link

http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/tmpgenc.html

It's a free utility except for the MPEG2 part, which is a 30 trial
period....

In a nutshell, drag the source MPEG file(s) made by MyDVD (might be two, one
for video and one audio) into the entry field(s) and then use the pull-down
menu to save the file to an AVI format..... and it'll give you choices of
codecs to compress them.... Windows Media 9 is a good one.... (I'm writing
without checking the app... gotta run but wanted to get you started).

Test it a bit on some small files until you have it down.

Thanks for your help. I have downloaded the "TMPGENC" application. However, I can't get it to recognize the MPEG files created with MyDVD. A "not supported" error message keeps coming up. Any idea what I'm missing?
