Capturing analog video

Guest

I'm using my DV camcorder as a pass through converter to convert analog video to digital so I can edit it in Movie Maker. I have the digital camera hooked up to my computer with a Firewire cable but I'm encountering a problem when I try to capture the video. I can see the analog video playing in Movie Maker when I press play on my analog VCR but I can't capture the video. Movie Maker says to press start on the analog video source then click on START CAPTURE. When I do this, my DV camcorder starts to play and it starts capturing the video on my DV tape. If anyone has encountered this or has a solution, I'd be grateful for advice.

You cannot usually use a DV camcorder as a pass thru device, it's not
designed that way.

You can however record analog video from your analog in onto a DV tape and
then capture the tape footage through firewire.

I have a JVC DV camcorder and was having the same
problem. I removed the tape from the camera and it
worked.
