Captured audio with video - can not mute

All works beautifully except the volume slider and mute functions have no
effect on the clips audio. If I overlay an audio file it plays as background
to the videos own audio. This is quite limiting. Could it be because I
capture through an Audigy Sound Blaster firewire port? Thank you to any help!

From memory, there is a slider that affects both the original audio and the
overlay sound at the same time. Further to the right increases the volume on
one, and reduces it on the other. Moving the slider to the left reverses the
increases and decreases. It's in one of the drop down menus along the top of
the screen. I'm not at my home computer at the moment, so can't check for
you, but I suspect this has something to do with what is troubling you.
