Audio not playing

I'm making a music video and I'm having issues with the audio.

I have imported an .mp3 file which works fine on windows media player,
however when loaded into windows movie maker, the sound is muted. When
playing back my video, the sound is mute, and is shown as mute on the
audio/music bar. However when you move the seek bar a little bit forward or
back, the audio begins to play. When I saved the project into a .wmv movie
file, the audio doesn't work at all.

Is there a problem with windows media, or is it the audio file?
