capture problem-stutters

I've got AMD 1800
512 ra
PCI Firewire car
40 GB hard disk approx. 50% used. Speed 5400rp
Is a hard disk that speed fast enough to capture video of a dv cam?
 
Probably not. Maybe if it is a UDMA drive it might work, but video needs 7200 RPM.
