No Video Preview Durng Capture or Edit

Hello and Please Help. I recently had to completely reload my computer from
scratch because of HP printer driver problems (boo hoo) well now everything
works except whenever I try to capture video from my Sony Digital Camera or
even from my Creative Web cam, I cannot preview the video. I have full
control of the Digital camera but no video. I can watch the video on the
camera LCD but not on the computer. This happens regardless of what software
I use Adobe Premier, Windows Moviemaker, etc.

I have an AMD 2.2 Ghz CPU
250 GB free hard drive for video
1.5 GB system memory
3 each firewire ports
The Sony is attached to the firewire port and shows up in the device manager
as such
The Creative Cam (which I just disconnected) is a USB 2.0 device which shows
up as such.

ANY HELP PLEASE I am really behind on my family videos

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Sounds silly to answer my own post but here goes. I was just about to
reformat my Win XP Pro and start from scratch when I looked at my problem
solving checklist. As a last gasp I decided to load ATI 's desktop manager
for my video card. Using this tool I could select my flat panel display and
set its properties. Well I was using both the VGA and DVI inputs and letting
my (you guessed it ) HP 2105 monitor autoselect the input . So after removing
this option and removing the DVI cable I rebooted and now every piece of
software allows me to preview what I am capturing.

Now don't ask me why this worked I can only assume that Premier, Windows
Movie maker, Pinnacle Studio and Easy Media Creator 8 do not allow or include
DVI drivers for my LCD. I searched around and found no drivers nor does HP
have any such info.

So using my HP 2105 with VGA input works fine with DVI it doesn't work at
all. Is it the ATI card, the LCD or the software who knows, all I can say is
that it is now working. I will be interested in any additional info that may
be provided to enlighten me on this.
