Capture pics from TV via tvcard ?

Andy

Is there any simple software out there which will be able to take a snapshot
of a picture coming into my tvcard from the tv ?

I have tried various software but some only capture to 352 X 288, some are
poor quality, some don't show a live input of what you are snapping.

My card is a Pinnacle Studio PCTV, i find the software that came with it
takes the best quality pictures, BUT on clicking the capture jpeg button, it
takes a further 3 seconds to actually take the snap, by which time the
picture I wanted to take has changed.

Is this simple?
Get VirtualDub www.virtualdub.org and get it running so that it shows
your video.
1 |file|capture avi. . .
2 |video|source| get your channel
3 |video|preview (this will dissable overlay mode and make the image
visible to windows
4 |capture|show information panel (to dissable the information display
and make the window small) and resize the window.
5 type ALT-PrtScr or ALT-PrintScreen to capture an image to clipboard
6 past the clipboard to your graphic editor.

I don't know, it's free.

Hi Andy,

You can give CapTV v2.0 a try...
Official site: http://www.micromediaenterprises.com/captv/
or here: http://www.mpegx.com/view.php?detail=907

I've used version 1.4 on my old ATI-AIW 8mb card for some time
and I'm very pleased with it.

Forgot to add there's also SmartCapturer at http://www.dimin.net/

Well, I downloaded them. Thanks. These will acutally have better speed
too if you want single image capture since they both use the overlay
screen while capturing. For full video though, you'll still want
VirtualDub. It is very fast. Again, thanks.

You're welcome.

Here's another that I use that has a single cap button (as well as
timed captures); though it has a clunkier interface when viewing
resolutions greater than 320x340ish... Ed's VideoCapture:

I've tried DScaler before and couldn't get it to play but just
downloaded and set it up for an old AverTVPhone and I don't know if
it's experience or if they've increased the number of cards supported
or what but, heh <g>, it works. Nice thing about it, when the NTSC
signal is set to full screen on a hi-def display it still looks, oh,
how can I put it, way better than ATI's junk. Can it actually grab
frames though?

hey guys,

How much a TVcard costs? And does it still need the Antenna to be connected
to the pc as well? coz my problem is that my room is upstairs and don't have
access to Antenna. Will it work without antenna?

Hi,
I use OpCapture, it captures the shot and holds it in the frame, you can open it in any photo suite!

hi john,
OpCapture looks interesting. There are some things though. What'd be
really very good would be a self timer, so that the app. would catch a
frame every, for instance, 15 seconds. Still looking for that feature.

The other thing, if a T.V. card is displaying an image and you do a
screen capture you'll usually only get a blank pic. The image is
displayed via the video card only and the computer's actual display is
a single color square. Usually pinkish cyan.

jsyk and btw, I didn't actually install OpCapture. I may be blowing
smoke here.)
