Capture over 3 minutes & audio sync is horrible

I'm still trying to find which is 'the best' capture card to get. Every time
I'm about convinced because of user comments, a string of comments is posted
that this card (aiw 8500 or aiw7500) is a poor choice ... damn ... which way is
a guy to go ???

Anyway, I'm capturing from VHS to my ATI Rage Fury Pro thru the composit video
input and the line input to my Audigy soundcard. I can capture at high (AVI)
resolution or low (MPEG-1) and, either way, if I capture over 3 minutes, the
audio goes severely out of sync. (I just defragged, too).

I'm using WinXP on an AMD 1.8 Ghz with 512 DDR and 2 - 80 gig 7200 rpm Seagate
drives. Capturing with ATI MMC 7.2 (I think that's as high as I can go with the
Rage Fury Pro).

Any ideas on why I can't cap over 3 minutes?

Thanks for any practical info.

That's a known driver issue. Try the most recent drivers for your
board, and if they don't help then try backrevving. As for the AIW7500
or 8500 being a"poor choice", if you're using a Rage Fury Pro then
either would be an improvement--just avoid the 8500DV and go with a
non-DV 8500.

Try these AVI capture programs. They try to maintain sync.

Thanks, for the input, J.C.. I've loaded the latest drivers so I don't think
that's the problem. I used to be able to capture 1/2 hour programs without
trouble. I'll try reverting back to the previous ATI software.

Also, when I loaded up the new MMC 7.2, I got a message that 'overlay was not
available or is being used by another program'. Very strange ... no other
programs are running.

Thanks again for the input.
