Canvas prints & Epson R1800?

Frank Arthur

Anyone using an Epson R1800 printer with canvas? How well did it work?
Which brand and size? How do you set the R1800 to use canvas?

Thanks in advance,

Frank

My wife makes me use this printer to print on fabric for her quilting
projects. There are backing papers that adhere to cloth/canvas with ironing.
The pigment dyes do not require any other preparation of the fabric.

Please. What is the brand name and where can you buy it?

I'll take a chance and post this even though it may cause measekite to
orgasm, and no one really wants to encourage him to this extent.

Although I used a 2200, it uses pigment ink also. For my good prints
and in my better printers I do use (should I dare say) Epson inks.

So far the only canvas that I have found that works with the Epson
2200 are 1. Epson and 2. Fredrix 901, 3. Jexjet 20 mil Waterproof
Canvas Mat, 4. Jexjet 19 mil Instant Dry Satin Canvas.

If anyone has found better results, please post information.

I used the ColorVision Profiler Plus cal chart as a test image and
cleaned the rollers between prints. Don't think I reset the computer
between prints though<sm>.

When printing on canvas I set the drying time to 20, as my overriding
issue is that the canvas doesn't dry before it reaches the output
rollers; thus leaving roller marks on the print and a mess on the
rollers.

Grading:
poor - colors merge or ink does not dry at all
fair - colors are not defined or are week
good - bright colors with acceptable definition
excellent - the closest to an oil painting.
superior - close to quality of Epson Prem Luster

1. Epson canvas - Good to excellent, I used the Epson prem luster pk
profile @1440 w/o color adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20. I also
added extra 10 sec by using pause button once per printed
inch(painful).

2. Fredrix 901 - Good to Excellent picture quality, dries before it
reaches rollers; using velvet fine are paper setting @1440 w/o color
adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20, I also added extra 10 sec by
using pause button. Evan Lyons (714-279-2339) was gracious enough to
send samples.

3. Lexjet 20 mil Waterproof Canvas Mat - Excellent picture quality,
dries before it reaches rollers. I used the Epson prem luster pk
profile @1440 w/o color adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20. I also
added extra 5 sec by using pause button. Dan Chavers (800-453-9538)
was gracious enough to send samples.

4. Lexjet 19 mil Instant Dry Satin Canvas - Excellent to superior
picture quality (the apparent white "snow" is not on the print, but is
caused by reflective canvas in scanning), dries before it reaches
rollers. I used the Epson prem luster pk profile @1440 w/o color adj,
w/o high speed, drying time to 20. I also added extra 5 sec by using
pause button. Dan Chavers (800-453-9538) was gracious enough to send
samples.

5. Artist Canvas by Integity Products (Pic of Mona Lisa on cover -
bought @ computer show) Fair to good colors, but it doesn't dry before
it hits the output rollers. Used Epson semi gloss profile and 1440
dpi.

6. Inkjet Artist Photo Canvas by Royal (http://www.theroyalstore.com/)
- good colors and almost dries before it reaches rollers. Very faint
roller marks. Used Epson semi gloss profile and 1440 dpi.

7. Medium texture canvas pad by Fredrix 3501(10 12x16 sheet pad
<$10)- fair to good color, rollers do not leave marks in the print,
but they do leave tracks in the unprinted areas. Used velvet fine art
paper setting @1440 w/o color adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20,
I also added extra 10 sec by using pause button. Also used Acrylic
protection spray to lock in the colors.

8. Pictorico Premium Canvas -
http://www.pictorico.com/Secure/eCommerce/Catalog.asp?prdc=4 - Good,
but the canvas doesn't appear porous; ie it just doesn't look and feel
like canvas., Dries before reaching rollers, no roller tracks. Used
Epson semi gloss profile and 1440 dpi.

9. BullDog IJ Gloss - Excellent to superior picture quality, VERY
slow drying. I could not print a ColorVision Profiler Plus cal chart
without roller tracks, even with an added 20 sec drying time. This
should blow away the Epson canvas using the Epson 7600 or 9600, as I'm
told they use a vacuum rather then take-up rollers. Evan Lyons
(714-279-2339) was gracious enough to send samples.

10. BullDog IJ Matte - Good to Excellent picture quality, slow
drying. I could not print a ColorVision Profiler Plus cal chart
without roller tracks, even with the added 20 sec drying time. Evan
Lyons (714-279-2339) was gracious enough to send samples.

11. InkJet Art's Quick Jet Canvas - Excellent picture quality, does
not dry before it reaches rollers; using velvet fine are paper setting
@1440 w/o color adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20, I also added
extra 10 sec by using pause button. Should be excellent on 7600 or
9600.

12. InkJet Art's Capri Canvas - Good to Excellent picture quality,
does not dry before it reaches rollers; using velvet fine are paper
setting @1440 w/o color adj, w/o high speed, drying time to 20, I
also added extra 10 sec by using pause button.
