I have a brand new install of Windows XP Prof. SP2. Sound never worked on
the computer. I have tried installing, deinstalling, and reinstalling sound
drivers several times. The system always tells me that all devices are
working properly in the device manager. However, under Control Panel, Sound,
it tells me that NO AUDIO Device installed. I have tried two different sound
cards. Same problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Yes. I have tried enable and disabling it. Same issue. I even installed an
external sound card and disabled sound on the motherboard. I get the same
error stating that No audio device installed (control panel sound).

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem! Have tried everything including the tips in
Kelly's corner. Read an interestering KB-article regarding that previously
installed drivers can block new device drivers. The fix was to run a utility
called PnPreg but didn't solve my problem either. The external sound card I
got works under Win98 but impossible to install under XP SP2.

Did you go to the sound card manufacturer's site and get new XP drivers?
