Can't work on word 2003 file

When I open up a word 2003, I get an error messge that the file is
locked.

File was transfer from Windows XP machine.

why do I get this locked message?

Have you check the properties of the file to see if it is set to Read Only?
If it is please uncheck then try again.

Also, try right clicking on the file, select Properties, then click the
"Unlock" button there - this appears when a file has been moved from another
computer and opened on another. Depends on security, but it's there for me.
