Mouse stopped working in Word 2007

Using Vista and Office 2007 and flying along when suddenly mouse stopped
working. Can not open Word files from windows explorer, search or desktop -
only can open files from within Word. When double click on Word file (no
matter the version), nothing happens. If Word is already open, it will open
a blank document. Then vista tries to "troubleshoot" my problem and provides
no details.

Mouse troubles continue when working in a Word file. Can not select
anything within the document: tables, table row, column, cell, paragraphs or
any text. Scroll bar gets locked too. I am able to click on the tabs and
the start button.

I have used external mouse and laptop touchpad and have same issues with both.

No problems working 2007 office apps - strictly Word.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Here are two posts from another source that may help..

Ok...found a solution, this really isn't so much a fix but a work-around
untill MS addresses the issue. My assumption that this problem is cuased by
a security features appears to have been correct. If you run Word with
administrator privileges (by either logging in as an Admin or by selecting
"Run As Administrator"), everything works as normal...you can highlight
text,
use the scroll bar and select the different options tabs in the options
menu.
So, the next step is to figure out why a user's access level restricts the
mouse abilites in Word. Does anyone know what the best way is to contact MS
and tell them about this?

This is the other post.. Good luck!!!

Well...now that I am able to access the add-ins option (by running Word as
Administrator), I was able to locate the culprit...and indeed it WAS
Laserfiche. I had my suspicious but an least I can now confirm it. However,
it appears the many different types of add-ins are causing this
problem...and
I have seen the same problem with both Word 07 and Word 03...so, I am not
really sure if this is a problem with Word or just a common problem shared
by many different add-ins. I have several contacts with the development
teams at Laserfiche so i will contact them and see if we can at least find a
solution for their add-in...

This happened to a couple people in my office (including me) after the
last set of Vista updates came out in mid December 2007. We followed
these steps to get around it, but Word is still having problems, as
everytime you try to close out the program an error message appears
that "Microsoft Word has stopped Working" and it tries to restart it.
Disabling add-ins will allow you to select text, use your mouse, etc.,
but the error message still appears on closing. We disabled add-ins
by clicking on the office button, choosing word options, then checking
"Show Developer Tab in Ribbon" checkbox. This displays the developer
tab. Then we clicked on the developer tab and clicked on "Macro
Security" - the button looks like a yellow caution sign. This opened
up another window where we were able to choose the add-ins option and
disable all add-ins.

Not sure what the real issue is as the only add-in I had was Adobe
Professional. My coworker didn't have any add-ins on her computer and
it still did the same thing. Hope it's resolved soon.

Found a fix that worked! From what I read you need to delete the Word
Data registry key and let it rebuild itself again. Seems that the
update has caused a security problem with the old registry for Word
Data. Here is a link on how to fix the problem; it worked for me and
seems to be stable for "now"...

Just rebuild and see if it works for you...

Hope it helps,

Ken

It worked. I deleted all the addin entries related to Word, deleted the
"Data" and "Options" entries as noted. Not sure which caused the problem but
if it hapopens again, I'll do them one ata time to find out.
If you are afraid to edit the registry, check out

The article "Mouse stopped working in Word 2007" was very helpful & it worked
for me.
Just a comment about one suggestion in another post. It suggested to go into
the Word Options and look at the Add-Ins category. This was stupid since the
mouse would not let you click on the category and no keyboard shortcut would
move you down the list. In most situations, you can use the keyboard to
manuever within a dialog box using the tab key, but not so in this new
options box.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I'm pretty computer literate and this one was
driving me nuts.
I even did a reinstall to no avail. What a screwball problem.
