Can't view Running Services

My OS is XP Pro. When I click on Start, Help and Support, Use Tools to view
computer information and diagnose problems, Advanced System Information,
View running services, a message appears saying:

'inst.PathName' is null or not an object

and the hourglass symbol appears. Nothing further happens.

I have Googled for a solution and not found one. sfc /scannow reveals no
problems. Any idea on what is wrong and/or how to put this right?

by chance did you run "easy cleaner" it seems that can cause that problem?

here is what I found
Hi Stu,
the one problem I see is that you've deleted DLL files, these files
are needed to run the program. Easy Cleaner by default creates a back
up file on anything it deletes. open easy cleaner and click on
restore, choose to restore all the files you noted in your post. You
can do without the help file if you don't think you'll need that.
However if you told Easy Cleaner not to back up your selections you'll
have to reinstall the entire program, you won't have to remove what's
there just reinstall and everything will be put back together.
About deactivating your Norton, go into the options and uncheck check
for virus's on start up...... Always shut off any virus software
before installing any programs......
That should do it.
Sincerely

Thanks, Wayne. Yes, Easy Cleaner may have been the culprit. But I've
updated it and somehow lost some of the earlier backups. Looks like a
reinstall of XP Pro is on the cards?
