Can't View Drop Down Field Values

I have created a drop-down field and entered my values. When I click Protect
in the Forms toolbar, I am able to view the drop-down field and can click and
view all of the values. If I save and re-open the .dot, all I see is the gray
field with first value listed but not the drop-down menu. Does the form have
to be protected in order to view the drop-down fields?

Yes. The objects on the forms toolbar needs protection for them to be fully
function.

I save the template protected, therefore when new documents are created
based on the template, they are protected. OR I add an Document_New() macro
to the template which protects new documents based on the template.
