Cant Use Windows Update

I just did a fresh install of windows xp home. Now I
cannot access the updates. When I go to the Windows
Update page and hit scan for updates it just sits at %0
percent. I did leave it for over 40 minutes to see if
the site was down, and then tried the next day and left
it for about 30 minutes with no success.

Any suggestions?
