Can't unlock computer

message "the computer is in use and has been locked. Only
domain/username or administrator can unlock". Then it
asks for password. Well the domain is my daughter and the
only password she has is not working. I never had to use
a password for this, since I never got this message
before. I end up having to shut down & start up in safe
mode everytime. Why does this happen? We've had this
computer since last year & it's never done this before.

Greetings:

You should be able to shutdown and startup again with no problem, what
you need to do is unplug the power cord and power on again, it will start up
as it normally does. Unplug the Internet connection cable if you have to.
It's not clear to me if... this keeps happening repeatedly? if so, you
need to login in safe mode if it's the only login option, and:

Hope I'm not being pesimistic here, but you never know. First and foremost
you need to enable the Windows Firewall and create/change passwords for all
users it's not a good idea to have the Firewall disabled or to log-in
without a password as you make it easy for hackers to take over your
computer.
1) Create/change passwords for your user accounts,
2) Change at least one account to the administrators group (with a
password).
3) Enable the Internet Connection Firewall
4) Download and install an anti-trojan program
5) Go to www.pandasoftware and run a virus scan
6) Update your anti-virus program
7) Update your Windows Operating System

1) 2) To create/change passwords/add a user account to the administrators
group:
Start\Run\control userpasswords2\enter\check on users must write their name
and use a password to use the computer\next select a user and go to> restore
password\type password (to create or change).. with same user selected go to
properties button\belonging to groups tab\in others select user group from
the drop-down window (at least one in administrators).

3) HOW TO: Enable or disable the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;283673

4) Scan for a posible parasite in your system... The Cleaner from
www.moosoft.com is a good option it has a very good rating for
finding and deleting parasites other programs miss.

5) To be positively sure you do not have a virus go to
http://www.pandasoftware.com/home/ look for Panda
Active Scan and run an online virus scan.

6) Your antivirus program has a shortcut to find and install updates. Or can
be configured to autoupdate.

7) Update your Windows Operating System.. Start\Helpcenter\under Select a
task click on keep your system updated with Windows Update... follow the
instructions or start\settings\control pannel\system\Auto Updates\check Keep
my system updated and configure your auto-update preferences.

If you have run scans and no parasite is found, an expired password may
be part of the problem, have a look here for a posible solution.

If this turns out to be the/or part of the problem, after you have
created/changed a password: Start\Run\lusrmgr.msc select users doble click
on user name and check on; Password never expires..
