Can't Uninstall

Jethro

I am running XP PRO SP2 and have an application I want to install.
When I try that, it tells me that it is already installed and
therefore must be uninstalled first. The application does NOT show in
ControlPanel>RemovePrograms. I have removed all occurrences of it and
its parts that I can find by using Windows Explorer. I have removed
all references to any components of the application from the Registry.
I see no references to it in Task Manager window.

How can I get over this hurdle? There must be another removal that I
am missing.

Thanks

Jethro

The reason why you can't re-install your adobe software, is because the
Windows MSI installer sees your non showing programs uninstall information,
and it assumes that the program is still installed. Theres a program to
remove the uninstaller information from the registry - downloadable at
Microsoft. See this article for details.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

You install it, and highlight the offending program when it appears in the
list, this program will blank out the uninstaller info. Then you should be
able to re-install your software. I had the same problem with Adobe
Acrobat Reader 7.06.

Downloaded it. Installed it. Ran it. Removed most of the displayed
items. I still get the same error.

Thanks anyway

Very often the software author has a better un-install utility. For
example, with Avast anti-virus, often the uninstall in Add/Remove does
not work correctly, so they have a fix on their website.
