One of my sons put a lot of free themes on my computer that I want to
get rid of. When I try to uninstall in add/remove programs it asks me
for a path to "uninstall". I've tried downloading "desktop architect"
but I get a cannot run error when I try to execute.

Anyone know of a freebie to get rid of this stuff?

Thanks!

Desktop themes don't require installation. You just delete the files
from where they are stored. If you don't know where they are located,
do a search for *.theme. Themes usually have an associated folder with
wallpaper, sounds, and cursors that you will want to delete also.
Desktop Architect is really only needed if you have a version of
Windows before XP. With XP or later, themes are access by the Display
option in your control panel.

If your son happened to install themes that came with adware attached
you can try removing the adware with "antispyware software" such as
these:

It is true that any Desktop Theme that downloads as a *.exe file more
than likely contain spyware (or adware). The only exception are self
extracting zip files which are not used often. To get rid of spyware
(and adware), see my web site at:

You need to instruct your son to not install Desktop Themes with *.exe
extensions. The ones that have *.zip or *.rar (or other compressed
formats) extensions should be OK. I have downloaded a number of themes
from the following site and not found any spyware:

I already run AdAware and Microsoft AntiSpyware, plus Norton.
How can I get rid of these themes?

The themes themselves are not bad, just the adware that came with them.
You can change the theme to what you want by right-clicking on the
desktop, click properties, then select the theme you want from the drop
down list.
