can't uninstall a program - windows installer cleanup failed

I'm trying to reinstall itunes for windows, but every
time I do I get Error 1605 "This action is only valid for
products that are currently installed." The problem is I
can't uninstall my old version of itunes, which is no
longer functioning. I've been told that this is a
Windows Installer problem. I downloaded windows
installer cleanup, but when I run the program itunes
doesn't show up in the box. I can't remove itunes from
Add/Remove, and I'm not sure what else to do. Please
help!
