My keyboard doesn't permit me to insert French characters
(Accents & Graves) using the recognised keyboard
commands. I have ascertained that my keyboard is
correctly set at English (UK).

Appreciate any assistance.

You've already posted this question twice under the title "Inserting
International (French) Characters".
Have a look there for the replies already given.

Select the character you want, the ALT - Numeric key sequence is also
diplayed which you can use one you've learnt the letters you need.

e.g. ALT-130 é

In order to insert accents on French letters look for the
letter in the character map and choose the letter you want
and insert it. Voila
Alternately, you can use the information at the bottom of
the map for the particular keystroke, e.g. È is Alt+0200
(Use the keypad with Num Lock ON)

same problem when typing in Appleworks V.5 for Windows.

There are several ways to do this. I use a little freeware
background program called AllChars. This lets me type many common
special characters (many of these are used in other languages) by
pressing the ctrl key followed by a two character mnemonic
combination.

For example, for ñ the two characters are ~ and n. For ç it's c
and , For ü it's u and "
