hi, i have XP home and a Conexant 56k modem. windows see's the modem as the
Best Best Data Fax, but will not actually work under this driver. the modems
2 years old and i've tried to drivers that came with it to bo avail. the
only thing i've found to work is one from Kobian.com, Soft56K under XP. the
modem works now, but there is no way to turn the speaker off! the whole time
i'm online it's screeching away! all options for speaker are set to off - no
difference

thanks,
-dan.

The WindowsUpdate latest Conexant modem driver update causes this screching
noise. Uninstall it and load the base drivers. If you have problems still,
Open Control Panel > Phone and modem options > Advanced tab > in the
advanced settings, type "m0".

The modem volume is muted.

The generic driver at http://www.conexant.com works well on my XP Home
machine. Downloaded in July as HSFp_WinXP.zip.
