can't switch to the welcome screen option

ok, I just formatted and restored my hard drive, and what I noticed was that
when I turned my PC on, it gave me the classic logon prompt instead of the
familiar welcome screen.
it never happened before (I formatted a lot of times before), and I can't
switch it to the welcome screen.

I already checked this
"Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Change the way users log on or off ->
check on the two boxes"

both boxes are checked, and according to the descriptions, when they are
checked, I should get my welcome screen.
that was not the case; although the boxes remained checked, it still gave me
the classic prompt.

I tried un-checking them and re-checking the boxes; didn't work
I tried [run -> control userpasswords2] stuff; didn't work
I tried deleting all the users and re-creating them; didn't work

I frantically looked for an answer, but couldn't find a single one.
all I found was that control panel -> user account stuff...

beside the fact that I like the welcome screen,
with this classic prompt, I can't even switch freely between users...
I gotta have that welcome screen back...

can ANYONE help me?

*Note: Using the classic logon method will also disable the use of fast user
switching, where applications remain active in other users sessions.

Do you have Netware installed? If so....

Right click My Network Places and select Properties. Right click the
Internet connection in question, or LAN connection, and select Properties.
On the Networking tab, This connection uses...highlight Client Services for
Netware and select Uninstall.

If not, here are the registry keys involved:

This setting controls which type of logon screen is shown, either the
classic Windows NT/2000 format or the Windows XP welcome screen.

Start/Run/Regedit

Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: LogonType
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = Classic Mode, 1 = Welcome Screen)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called 'LogonType'
and edit the value according to the settings below. Exit your registry, you
may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.

Note: Using the classic logon method will also disable the use of fast user
switching, where applications remain active in other users sessions.
