Can't Stop Outlook Express from Trying to Access Suspended News Account

A Baffled User

I've been using Outlook Express as my news reader for years. I have three or
four Internet connections, most of them dialup, that I use at different
times of year and/or in different locations. Currently I am accessing the
Internet (and getting mail and news) via a broadband DSL connection, as I
have been doing with no problems for a few months. Call it account A.

Suddenly today when I click Send/Receive or Headers, I get an error message
saying that my password was rejected by account B, which I haven't used for
months. I have removed account B, and all others besides A, from the list of
accounts under Tools>Accounts>News. Why, then, do I keep getting this error
message about an account that's not even listed on the newsgroup accounts
list (or on the All or Mail tabs) when I'm trying to send/receive newsgroup
posts?

Thanks!

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup, like
microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general. This newsgroup is for Office
Outlook.

Thanks, but the only Outlook Express newsgroups I was able to find through
my ISP, Verizon DSL, had either "mac" or "inetexplorer" appended to them. I
don't have a Mac, and I don't use Internet Explorer.

I do, however, have Office, and the program I use for e-mail is the Office
version of Outlook. When I click View>Go to>News from within that Office
version of Outlook I am taken to Outlook Express. I.e., the Outlook Express
news reader I am using is part of my Office suite.

In any case, God knows why, things seem to be working normally this
morning...

Use Microsoft's news server.
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

No it's not part of the Office Suite. It's part of WIndows and Internet
Explorer. All the News command does is call Outlook Express with the
/outnews command line switch to give OE an "Outlook News Reader" skin. It's
still pure Outlook Express.

Aha! Thanks for the links to the msnews sites. I didn't realize that I could
subscribe to newsgroups that weren't offered by my Verizon news server.
