Just upgraded new motherboard (ecs p4m800-m7, socket lga775 board)and cpu
(pentium 4 630, 3.0 GHz w/ HT) from older Asus Tusi-M, socket 370/Celeron,
1GHz.
The install went well until Windows didn't start up. So, I tried to do a
boot up from my Win XP Pro disc. Went into install, chose repair mode. After
XP went thru the repair, the system booted up again and then goes into the
dreaded BLUE SCREEN...because of conflict with the file, ipvnmon.sys
I've tried:
--booting from Safe Mode
--using Recovery Console
--another repair install
--booting from "last known good configuration"
All of these with no success.
One person mentioned that removing ipvnmon.sys seemed to help their
situation. This file is located in c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers. Is there a
way to go in at system startup, go into DOS and remove the ipvnmon.sys file.
I also read from another poster that by adding a different file extentions
might get rid of the problem (for example, to ipvnmon.sys.xxx). Is there a
way to change the file extension in DOS?
If there is a way, please give VERY detailed instructions on how to do it.
I'm not even close to knowing anything about DOS.
Also, if there is any other suggestions for getting by this booting problem
due to this file please let me know.
I've considered reinstalling a clean XP install, but I wanted to install
into the same hard drive the original XP install was on.....and I get a
message saying that it isn't suggested doing that and that I should install
on another drive and that I should go to XP's website about multiple installs.
Someone suggested I try to use "Safe mode with Command prompt" by pressing
F8 at startup....I tried that but as soon as it gets to the screen with the
whole slew of driver files....after I get to that screen it then goes to
briefly (for about 2 sec) to a blank sky blue screen (not the dreaded bright
blue screen of death)...then it goes to the safe mode screen (black
background/white letters) with 'Safe Mode' in all four corners. At the top of
the screen it says 'Microsoft (R) Windows XP (R) (Build 2600)'. In the middle
of the screen it has an error message box that says Windows XP setup cannot
run under Safemode. Setup will restart now.
When, I hit the 'ok' button on the error message box....it takes me back to
Startup (with BIOS check, memory check, drives, etc)....then it goes to the
Windows XP startup screen (for about 5 secs.) then it stalls at the Blue
Screen of death (with the ipvnmon.sys file being the culprit).
How do I proceed from here? Or any other suggestions?
