Can't start Outlook - "it can't open Outlook window"?

Hi.

I did some changes on how my browser (IE 7) handles cookies. After that I
could not start my Outlook (2007 student version). It says "MS Office Outlook
can not be started. The Outlook window can not be opened" (but it said so in
Swedish though... use a swedish version). Of course I tried to change back
the cookie settings but it did not help. I also tried to repair and then
remove/install Office 2007 again but nothing helped.

Any ideas what can have gone wrong/how to solve it?

Start Outlook with the resetnavpane switch;
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetnavpane

That it happened after the cookie setting change was probably a coincidence
;-)

The Home & Student version of Office does NOT include Outlook. See:

Time to modify your story.
It says "MS Office Outlook can not be started. The Outlook window can
not be opened" (but it said so in Swedish though... use a swedish
version).

So did you buy a separate copy of Outlook to include into your Office
suite? From what others have said, a separate install of standalone
version of Outlook does provide all integration features available when
Outlook is included in the MS Office suite.
Of course I tried to change back the cookie settings but it did not
help.

Outlook isn't a web browser. It doesn't use cookies.
I also tried to repair and then remove/install Office 2007 again but
nothing helped.

Guess it might depend on where and when you obtained Outlook since it
is not included in the Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student edition.

Have you tried loading Outlook in its safe mode so any add-ons you
installed into it do NOT get loaded?

outlook.exe /safe

Hi

This has happened to me as well. It happened after I installed Windows Live
Mail for newsgroup reading purposes.
I have tried your resetnavpane option and I get a message that the file
cannot be found. I am running Windows 7

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I uninstalled Office and Windows Live. Reinstalled
Office and then let Windows Update
install Windows Live instead of me physically going to the website and
downloading it. Everything
is working now.

Ohh.. wow! I helped! Thanx a million!

Just out of curiosity (to learn for the future) - what exactly did happen to
cause this?

I bought the whole suite and installed it at once.

If you bought the student edition of MS Office 2007 then you did NOT get
Outlook. It isn't included in that edition of Office.
