Can't start applications once connected to the internet.

Once i've connected to the internet, I can't start any applications, but
after about 10 mins, the programs I tried to start all start at once.

I'm with AOL and using the Silver broadband package. I am not connecting to
the internet with the AOL software (though I have it installed) but
connecting using a PPPoE connection.

I've done a spyware/adware and virus scan but none found.

How much RAM memory does your computer have?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

Hope this helps.

Do you leave your computer on 24/7?

What are your anti-spyware arrangements?

What is your default browser? Are you using more than one browser?

No, my PC isn't on 24/7 (It's shut down at night) though it is on for most of
the day.

My Anti-Spyware is Spybot Search and Destroy but I scan quite rarely (my
last scan only brought up a few ad cookies, and I've had this problem for a
long time, even before I started using Firefox)

And my default browser is Firefox.

What is your precise version of Firefox? Have you checked for updates?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox?

What firewall are you using?
