Can't standby--print spooler problem

C

Charles M

I'm running Win XP Pro on my laptop. The machine's about
a year old, and up until a week ago, I had no problems
with putting the machine into standby--just close the
lid, and the machine goes to sleep.

Now it will no longer go into standby. It stays running
with the lid closed. When I open it again, there's a
dialog box that says "The service "Print Spooler" is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Try
stopping this service and try again." When I stop the
print spooler service, it will go into standby, but it's
a pain stopping and starting that service multiple times
per day.

* All Microsoft updates (drivers included) are up to date

* As far as I know, I've never installed a non-XP
certified driver

* I've tried logging on with a different user profile,
and the problem persists

Suggestions to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck Murphy

Perhaps a file has become corrupted. If you have the XP
Pro install disc there is a repair process that may help.
Run Help and Support and search 'repair'. Back-up first.
Sorry I couldn't offer something specific.
