Can't shutdown Excel is running error message

I have a user who is running windows 2000 sp4 and office
200 sp1 and when she goes to shutdown windows at night she
gets the error message "Can't shutdown Excel is running"
she has no option but the hard shutdown the PC. Does
anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem
and how to solve it.

That doesn't sound like the exact error message to me - have you seen this
yourself? Copy down the exact error ...also check the app event logs.
Does she have Excel running at the time? If she runs task manager, is
excel.exe running in the background?
