Can't share problem

Dan

I have two W2K PCs networked by Linksys router, but I couldn't get file
share to work. They were in the same workgroup and I logged in with the same
user name. One PC1, when I tried to find PC2 under Microsoft Windows
Network, I got "Workgroup is not accessible" error. On PC2, I could see PC1,
but got \\PC1 is not accessible. The network path was not found. Please
advise what I did wrong. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "networked by Linksys router"? If one is on the LAN
side and one is on the WAN side it is not going to work,...that is not the
way it is done.

I meant both are connected to a router at home. Thanks.

That is not what I am asking. Are they pluged one into the LAN side and one
in the WAN side or are they both plugged in to the built in "switch" of the
router? If they are plugged into the "switch" then they aren't "using" the
router but are using the built in switch,...terminology is everything,..I
can't help if I don't know what you mean.

No. I got the following error when pinging by IP address or name from either
of them. Thanks.

Using software firewalls? If so, disable them and test again.
Post the complete ipconfig /all from each computer....

Can you ping PC1 from PC2, by IP address? By name?

They both are pluged in one of the 4 ports. WAN is used by DSL modem.
Thanks.

Ok. That is the correct way.

The next step is to make sure the Workgroup Name matches on each machine
(one might be mispelled) and that the network settings are compatible. You
also want any software "firewalls" to be disabled if there are any. What
does "IPCONFIG /all" show when typed from a command window? Do all machines
access the Internet ok using the Linksysbox?
