can't share files...

I have 2 new PCs in my office that are running XP home. I created a
directory to share files over the network, but every time I try to open them
with a computer that didn't create the document, I get an error saying I
don't have permission to alter the document. I have gone to individual
files, and to folders to change the attributes from read only. However,
every time I change the attributes, windows changes them back for me.
(thanks...) I have also tried putting the files in a shared documents folder
and moving the shared folder to the other computer, both with the same
results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

See if you can copy the file to your machine. If so then change the
attributes and try to edit.
