Can't set default email program

I've just re-installed WinXP after a serious hardware failure.

I went to set my emailer, Pegasus, as the default email program but it's not
even listed in the 'set program access and defaults' folder - this wasn't a
problem before. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but XP isn't
picking it up. I've stopped Outlook and Outlook Express as email programs
and now all I get is that no default is set.

Is this a registry thing?

Help appreciated.

There's no mention of Pegasus in the registry as far as I can see, altho'
there's Thunderbird which I've uninstalled.

Nor is it listed in Internet Options.
