I have just changed my system from Outlook Express to Outlook on a Windows XP
SP2 Home Edition. I have two email accounts in Outlook XP (2002) SP3. The
default is with my ISP and I have no problem receiving or ssending. The other
is with Gmail and I can receive with no problems. However, when the account
is set up and tested, I get the error report "Test mail failed. Verify email
address". I have set this account up both automatically by importing from
O.E. (where it was working fine) and manually. I have thoroughly checked the
settings, especially in 'Advanced' and found no problems. I have run Google's
email checker, which couldn't check the configuration but could not find any
problems. Currently, I am having to send all my Gmail through my browser
(IE7).
Any help out there? please!

Gmail support were extremely helpful and eventually exhausted their
repertoire of fixes and suggested that the fault was probably down to the
mail client (Outlook). The less dramatic fixes on restoring the Gmail account
to Outlook resulted in the 'Send' problem remaining, so I removed Outlook an
reinstalled it. When I set up the Gmail account this time, it all worked.
