Edit the email address that you are sending to, and remove the "]" from the
end of it.

Then try again.

Thanks Gary, I unchecked SSL under outgoing mail (should I uncheck under
incoming as well?) and received following:

In my response I quoted Carla's entire post, which included a
complete error message.

Hi Carla, one more setting to fix:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

Yes, so she did, missed that sorry.

I am sick of thread hijacking.

It is time that we as a team refused to answer "me too" posts, and advised
only to start a new thread.

Gary, thanks again, I enabled "my server requires authentication' and got
the following message while trying to resend another message remaining in the
outbox.

Move the message from your Outbox to Drafts, Copy the contents to a new
mail, give it a Subject address it and send.

The original is still trying to send with the previous settings.

That sounds like trying to achieve the Holy Grail of correct Usenet
posting etiquette. :-)
I used to be more idealistic about this, but I've learned that most
posters here are first timers to Usenet, unaware of its conventions.
They're desperate for a quick answer that will fix their urgent problem.
If instead all they get is a lecture, the less persistent ones will
just go away, disappointed and angry.

Well, fair enough, but what about Cat who was the OP in this thread.

Look at the thread and find the answer to that problem, from a newbie point
of view?

Just because Carla hijacked it.

Hello Steve
I moved the message from Outbox to Drafts, Copied the contents to a new
mail, gave it a Subject, addressed it and hit send. I then rec'd this error
message

Subject 'skull', Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC17

That error indicates either that you cancelled the send because of a timeout
or the message contains a large attachment?

Move the message from the Outbox again to drafts, close and reopen WM, go to
the message in drafts, double click it and try another send.

Or try to send a simple test message to yourself first, from an empty
outbox.

Thanks, I closed and reopened windows mail, sent myself a test and was able
to finally get everything sent. FOr some reason I keep having to go to tools
and uncheck work offline. I have verizon DSL as ISP and had no problems like
this before getting this new computer with Vista 10 days ago. I also keep
getting pops up boxes like "dial up connection, select the service you want
to connect to"...should I juct click close, better yet...how do I make it
stop!.

Thanks for your patience. I wasn't trying to hijack, I thought I was
commiserating with someone having the same problem. Then I figured out how to
ask a new question of my own and added my error message. I am so frustrated
I've toyed with hooking up my old HP pavilion rather than trying to get
answers. I'm struggling with how much the support has deteriorated since I
last bought a computer. I'm new at this whole self serve support thing

<IMHO-kibbitz>

But that only serves to confuse the OP and invites others to post more "Me,
too!" replies which confuses everyone even further.
