hi....i've been trying to send email on window live but i always receive
this message....The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you
have entered the server name correctly.

Subject 'baby..'
Server: 'SMTP'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
Socket Error: 11001
please i need help asap.....

"SMTP" is not a valid mail server name. You must obtain the
correct mail server name from your email service provider.
They will typically have a web page with email setup
instructions. If you need more help, tell us who your email
service provider is. I see you posted with a Hotmail address.
Is that your desired email address that you want to set up?
If so, delete that account in Windows Live Mail, and start a
new account setup (Tools, Accounts, New...), but this time
allow the wizard to set up the server info automatically.

Incidentally, future Windows Live Mail (WLM) questions should
be posted in the WLM newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Gary...

I've seen your responses to many questions, so maybe you can help me. I use
Windows Mail and last Friday it stopped sending out my messages. I've gone in
and re-done the outgoing account information, but to no avail.

Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Thanks.

Hard to say without more details. Do you get an error message when
you try to send? If so, right-click on the error message, copy, then paste
it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without that complete error message.

No error message...just a quick "checking for mail," it pulls the in mail and
goes off....

I'll have to keep searching....

thank you...

Sounds like you are doing a combined Send & Receive. To narrow the
problem down, click on the little down-arrow next to the Send/Recv button,
and select Send All. Does it do anything?

Are there messages sitting in the Outbox folder? If so, open the Outbox folder.
Move as many of the Outbox messages as you can to he Drafts folder. If any
won't move or can't be deleted, apply this Microsoft fix:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090

Let us know if that fixed the problem.

Gary,

I just created my account with wlm. I can recieve emails but can't send out.
I have attempted with the help of my isp to reswolve this through the
accounts/propeties/servers routine to no avail. Please help!

Here is the error:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'dmclaren@quickclic'. Subject 'Re: Why I
didn't Make the Olympics...', Account: 'pop.sourcecable.net', Server:
'smtp.sourcecable.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '504 5.5.2
<dmclaren@quickclic>: Sender address rejected: need fully-qualified address',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 504, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Thanks for including the complete error message. It makes my job
so much easier. :-)
The problem is that dmclaren@quickclic is not a complete email address.
The last part should be @quickclic.net.

Bingo! It worked. Very nicely done and I truly appreciate it. I was ready to
start doing reinstallations and all kinds of scary things that I don't know
anything about.

Thanks so much.

Susan

Tried that. In all the locations where it shows my e-mail is listed as
(e-mail address removed)

Well, the error message doesn't agree. :-)
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties.
On the General tab make sure the "E-mail address" field has your
complete email address. If it was already correct there, the account
may be corrupted. Delete it, restart Windows Mail, and recreate that
account from scratch.
