I have been unable to send out emails through Windows Mail for the past week
starting on Monday Sept. September 28th. I get the following message:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Test', Account: 'pop.secureserver.net', Server:
'smtpout.secureserver.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F.

I have tried changing the port number but that hasn't helped. Can anyone
help me?
Thanks.

Excerpts from the link I gave you :
................ " NOTE: "smtpout.secureserver.net" is an SMTP relay server.
In order to use this server to send e-mails, you must first activate SMTP
relay on your e-mail account. Log on to your Manage Email Accounts page to
set up SMTP relay. If you do not have SMTP relay set up and your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) allows it, you can use the outgoing mail server for
your Internet Service Provider. Contact your Internet Service Provider to
get this setting. " .............. end quote

................. "7. If you did not change the SMTP relay section, select
Use same settings as my incoming mail server. If you changed the user name
and password in the SMTP relay section of your Manage Email Accounts page,
select Log on using and enter the user name and password. The following
example assumes you did not change your SMTP relay section in your Manage
Email Accounts page. " ................... end quote.

"Unexpectedly terminated" is usually caused by interference from an
antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

If no improvement after disabling email scanning, consider upgrading
to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to suffering bad effects
from overly intrusive antivirus programs:

Gary,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I tried disabling my
virus email scan, but that didn't help. Do you have any other ideas other
than not using Window Mail. I don't really understand what Windows Live Mail
is.

Which antivirus is it? For some of them, merely disabling email
scanning is not sufficient. This is especially true for Norton, McAfee
and AVG antivirus products. In some cases the antivirus can be
uninstalled and then reinstalled with a custom procedure that eliminates
the email scanning module.

Windows Live Mail is an email program somewhat similar to Windows Mail.
You can try it out, and even run both programs simultaneously, as I do.
There's no commitment; if it turns out you don't like it, just uninstall.
Going forward, Windows Live Mail is the only free Microsoft email program
supported in Windows 7, so you may want to get ready for the future.
