can't send email

first time using outlook. sounds dumb i know. when i hit the send button all
i get is a "ding" and the message just sits there.
 
What version of Outlook?
pop mail or?
When you setup Outlook did you use the test accounts option, with what
result?
 
outlook 2007. pop3. yes i used the test accounts option and the installation
was completed. running vista if that matters. thanks for your time.
