can't send email

Fred

I can receive but not send emails, a problem that just happened recently. My
server tried to help me through this but was not able to resolve it. My
error is

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:

Are you sure smtp.xplornet.com supports port 587? Their online
setup instructions don't reflect it:

Which company is currently providing your connection to the Internet,
Xplornet or Telus? It is somewhat unusual to have the outgoing
and incoming mail servers belong to different providers.

Xplornet is my provider as Telus has no high speed in my area. I kept my
telus email as I used it for years. I was set up with port 25 until I
contacted Xplornet who advised me to switch to 587. I had no problems the
initial setup for a month or so and then suddenly it stopped working

I verified that smtp.xplornet.com does answer on port 587.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Make sure there is a check in the box for "My server requires
authentication". Click Settings. Click "Log on using", then enter
your Xplornet login information. Click OK. Try sending.
