Can't send email with Norton firewall turned on since Wed 1/11

With Outlook 2003 since the Norton Liveupdate on Wed 1/11 I can't
send/receive my email. I have been through my provider and done all their
recommendations. Turn off Norton email checking of email, done by the
provider, use authorized log in and change port. I have confirmed and checked
everything else over the last 2 days. Outlook is always allowed through
Norton, both Norton and Office have been installed for awhile and has been
working fine untill the Norton Liveupdate on 1/11. I can send/rec only when I
turn the Norton Firewall off. Is the problem in Outlook 2003 or Norton? Both
Norton and Microsoft want to charge me which I shouldn't have to pay. One of
them has a problem even if it's a configuration problem, it should be given
for free AND easily found!

Are you running two firewalls (Norton and Windows)? If so, turn one off and
make sure you specifically allow Outlook through the remaining firewall.
Also, turn off email scanning (incoming and outgoing). You won't compromise
your security and antivirus safety if you do.

We had a similar problem and Norton wanted to charge for a fix so we ended
up switching to another Virus protection/firewall software provided for free
from our cable company. Our whole system runs faster and no more email
problems. It does seem there is a compatability issue beween Microsoft and
Norton.

Despite their years of experience, the programmers at Symantec seem to have
a tendency to write programs that conflict with Outlook.
