can't send e-mails anymore

Anytime I try to send an e-mail in outlook XP I get an instant return e-mail
with this message

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'anye-mailaddress' on 5/14/2004 2:31 PM
550 relaying mail to domain.com is not allowed

This is strange, I know this can't be the reason but ever since a power
outage this week, I've been unable to send e-mail.

I have verizon DSL...previously was on earthlink dialup

since this happend I've checked my account settings.I noticed that I still
had my smtp server as smtp.earthlink.net Even though I haven't had them for
a while, it was still working. So I thought maybe they "caught" up and so I
tried using outgoing.verizon.net. Same no relay message from that. Then I
tried mydomains smtp and that doesn't work either.

The same thing happens in outlook express with my personal e-mail account,
slightly different error but similar enough.

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'anye-mailaddress'. Subject
'testing', Account: myaccount, Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '550 You must check your mail from this IP or SMTP Auth
before sending to anye-mailaddress', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

What the heck caused this all of a sudden?
Please help, I'm getting really frustrated.

I think you have to authenticate to the Verizon SMTP server - check with
Verizon support.

I just had this too...

Try using SMTP authentication (same as for your incoming
mail server) It's in more settings of your account setup

Okay thanks. That's all it was. Strange how it had been working fine until
the power outage...I think I've had dsl for almost 2 months now using my old
dialups smtp heh.
