can't see SOME .jpg photos on a website.

On a boating website, some .jpg photos show clearly. Others are a white box
with a red x in the middle. Only difference I can tell between them is, when
I go to "properties" the viewable pix show TYPE = JPG; the non-viewable pix
show TYPE=UNKNOWN. They are all .jpeg or .jpg by their description,
though???

I posted before and have tried the various things suggested ( remove temp
int. files ); get an update on my MS viewer; take off my ZoanAlarm
Firewall..nothing works so far. Any additional ideas appreciated.

I have Norton Systemworks running
if that is any clue?????

thanks

The main reason could be the photo has become corrupted,
or is in use by another program. Youre sequence for
downloading the photo must be done right. Did you scan
the photos, or cop images from net?

It would help if you linked to the site so we could tell if it's just your
browser not showing them or if it's due to something else. There are many
possible causes; MSN groups will often have problems if someone uploads from
behind a firewall and the photo appears to upload OK, but it doesn't show.
A normal website, however, is a different thing; if the photo uploads, it
should show. Reasons for it not showing could be in the way it was saved.
I don't know about the various MS photo software, but in Photoshop when you
save a jpeg, you can choose from three options, such as progressive,
optimized, or standard, and need to use the "baseline standard" if you want
the photos to show everywhere. "Progressive" sounds nice, like progressive
gifs, but many won't be able to see them, and if you take them into Walmart
etc. to print, they won't be able to.

Without knowing whether it's the photos or site, or your machine or browser,
it's hard to go any farther. However, as far as Norton Systemworks being
any clue, it's only a clue that we all can make mistakes 8^). If you keep
it on, keep links handy to the other MS newsgroups for XP, you'll probably
be needing them. I believe it's possible to use only the virus protection
and uninstall the rest. It's not the cause for your pictures not showing
though, at least that's not one I've heard of.
