Can't see other PC in network neighborhood

M

Mark Flynn

I have a peer to peer network consisting of two PC's connected by a
residential router/switch.
The router is DHCP enabled, and leased IP addresses 10.168.106.52 for PC
"RIGHT" and IP: 10.168.106.50 for PC "LEFT
The workgroup is called "ANY".
Both PC's can ping the router.
Computer LEFT can ping RIGHT, but not visa-versa.
LEFT is running Win 2k pro, RIGHT is running Win 98se
When I try to access Computers near me (workgroup ANY) on LEFT running
Win2k, I get this error message: "ANY is not accessible. The list of servers
for this workgroup is not currently available"
Any ideas?
Thanks, Mark Flynn

Try setting both computer's TCP/IP properties to "obtain an IP address
automatically". Then let the router resolve it. The local network will
normally be the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 range.

If this is an internet sharing setup, the router should find your provider's
server automatically.

If you have been paying your internet provider for two IP addresses, you can
now stop doing that.

You will also need to setup a user account on your Win 2000 machine for your
Win 98 machine. Otherwise, Win 2000 will not share. The same is not true
of Win 98. It will share way too freely.

Mark ...

Did this solve your problem? If not, what did you do to fix it? I have
virtually the same problem. I have three computers ... 2000Pro-A,
2000PPro-B, XPhome. XP and 2000Pro-A can talk to each other but neither can
see 2000Pro-B. When I try to query the system on 2000Pro-B, I get the
"[workgroup] is not accessible. The list of servers for this workgroup is
not currently available."

All of my systems are able to access the internet over the router ... it is
just the file sharing stuff that doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.
