Can't see desktop icons

Many icons are visible, but when I try to drag a new one to the desktop, I
can't see it. It's in users/owner/desktop, but not on the desktop itself.
Anybody know why?

Right-click the desktop > Sort by name
Should now be visible.

Seen it happen every now and then - think it's a bug.
