cant save attachments from outlook 2007 emails

B

bdr777

I am having the following issue with saving attachments:

when i try to save an attachment by dragging from an email message to a
folder/desktop - nothing happens, no error message, no beep, no indicator
whatsoever, it just doesnt work. It worked at one time

when i try to save an attachment by copy and paste (either right click copy
right click paste, or ctrl+c and Ctrl+V) same problem as above

when i try to save an attachment by right click holding, dragging and using
"copy here" same as above.

all of these use to work... and now they dont.. i'm stumped... any
suggestions would be appreciated

the only way that works is to use save as, and browse to the desktop or a
folder

I am running:

outlook 2007
winxp pro sp2

thanks

What type of attachments are these?
If you do a right-click drag and drop can you see the "Copy here" option?

B

bdr777

any documents: word, excel, in design, .psd, .pub, .jpg, and more. it
seems to be a universal problem

yes, i can see the "copy here" option when i do a right click drag and drop.
when i click it though...nothing... sorry i did not make that clear.

B

bdr777

no - as i said below... when I right click drag and drop. the copy here menu
comes up, but nothing happens, i click copy here, and nothing happens, no
error message, no beep, no indicator whatsoever, it just doesnt work. It
worked at one time

I'm totally beat on this. It seems to be more of a system issue than an
Outlook one or the way Outlook interacts with the system.
You can try repairing the Outlook installation and see if maybe some
associations are fixed.

repairing outlook didnt help... Thanks for trying Bill

Is there anybody out there who has any ideas?? :)

I also am running:
outlook 2007
winxp pro sp3

I’m having the same problem as bdr777.
I just configured Outlook today 6/3/08 on my laptop. So it did not stop
working it just never has…

I have tried all of the things bdr777 has tried, del my account and set it
up again, plus I have closed my Firewall, virus, and other background
programs and still no drag and drop or cut and paste (File types: zip, bmp,
xls…) I can open the files and then do a save as… errrr.

When you do a drag you get a plus on the cursor at the drop location but
there is not drop or error. Nothing happens… When you ctrl-c and then close
the e-mail you can get the message about a large amount of data in the
clipboard…

PS
I have the same setup on my desktop and things work great there, it’s not an
operator issue…

A client of ours is having the same issue as well— Windows XP SP3,
Outlook 2007, all updates up to date. Cannot drag and drop attachments
from the email message to the desktop. If trying to copy&paste,
Windows beeps twice when pasting the file to the desktop. Can't figure
it out, 22 other users in the office on identical systems have no
issue.

My only work around has been to open the file in the email and then do a
‘Save As’...

One other thing, my install is very clean. Almost from a new install plus
updates.

One more thing...

when i try to save an attachment by dragging from an email...

I just got this message:
In order to add this to your Active Desktop, you need to save a copy of the
picture

This was an Excel file I was trying to drag

I have only seen this message two or three times.

I started having this problem a week or so ago. I started trying to find a solution this morning and found this forum. Since there was no solution here, I keep looking and found another forum at http://help.lockergnome.com/windows/Drag-Drop-problem-ftopict443808.html.

The answer they recommended was to re-register a dll by going to Start / Run and typing regsvr32.exe ole32.dll

It worked for me. I closed Outlook, re-registered the dll, restarted Outlook, and was able to drag and drop attachments again.

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem and this worked like a champ
Try this:
1. close Outlook
2. Re-register a .dll by clicking Start/Run then type "regsvr32.exe ole32.dll" without quotes then press Enter

This worked immediately for Outlook 2007 (no PC restart required)
